Dr. Van Vahle presented a short program on his recent Mission Trip to Haiti at the Kiwanis Meeting today. He was with a group of medical people who provided services to a large number of Haitians at no cost; the mountains and hillsides have eroded to where the land has lost most of it's productive capability. Despite the poverty in the country it was surprising that most kids had cell phones. His pictures and stories made us appreciate what we have in this country. In recognition of D-day on this date in 1944, we sang "America" and "America the Beautiful".
I left the Kiwanis meeting a bit early for a deep cleaning appointment at the Seward Dental Clinic P.C. I had not met the young lady before who did an excellent job of cleaning my teeth but also of exchanging information on family history. Her Grandparents were neighbors to my folks at the time her Mother was born. I had even played on the Bee Basketball Town Team with her Grandfather. The building shown in the drawing is the new facility that the Dental clinic will be moving into later this summer. It is part of the development that is taking place on the old Public School ground area.
