Wilt Chamberlain in Kansas

"Jayhawkers" is a low budget film being shown this week at the Ross Theater in Lincoln. L. Kent Wolgamott wrote this article in the weekly entertainment supplement of the Lincoln Journal Star. The 1 hour, 40 minute, black and white film tells the story of Chamberlain during his time at Kansas University and his impact on desegregation in Lawrence. The 2014 films director, and KU film professor-Kevin Willmott, was at the Ross last night for a Q & A session following the films showing. In his article, Kent tells of how teams slowed down the game (no shot clock at that time) and cites a February 22, 1958 game
in Lincoln where Jim Kubacki hit a 15-foot shot to give the Cornhuskers a 43-41 win over the No. 4 Jayhawks in one of the top upsets in Nebraska basketball history. Elaine, Tim and I attended the game and I so noted in my Diary. Tim was just 6 years old but has distinct memories of the event. I did cover more of the details of the game in my 2/22/15 blog page which tells of a Legends Game recognizing the 60th anniversary of the hiring of Jerry Bush as Nebraska's Basketball Coach.
