TeamMates

Seward HS Assistant Principal, Jill Johnson presented the program at Kiwanis this noon.  She spoke on Team Mates. The program was started back in 1991 when UN-L Football Coach, Tom Osborn and wife Nancy matched up 22 Nebraska football players and 22 Lincoln Middle School students as Team Mates.
The program caught on with Seward having been involved for 25 years. There are 160 Chapters in schools throughout Nebraska. There are 58 Mentors with a like number of Mentees here in Seward Schools this year. There are very specific rules regarding the selection of Mentors with all weekly meetings held on school property. Typically, when the Mentor and Mentee are paired up, they continue the relationship throughout their HS years. There were several people in the audience that had been Monitors. They told of the continuing relationship that exist even after the students have graduated. While there were messages read with Mentees saying how much help they received, the Mentors felt they may have received even more.
