Appalachian Mountains

Tim called this evening after getting home from being down in North Carolina during the week. They visited their son Tony in Raleigh and daughter Maggie who had driven up from Atlanta. Then they drove over to the Appalachian mountains in the western part of the state. They drove through the Great Smokey National Park that straddles the NC/TN border. Tim says it's a drive that you never forget. While I don't remember ever having driven it, Elaine and I have traveled many miles in that area. Carolyn lived in Boone where she graduated from Appalachian State University, married and had Julie. Jon worked as a Soil Scientist in 2 or 3 locations in this area as well as in the eastern part of the state. On one occasion, Elaine and I went to the Worlds Fair in Knoxville, TN and went over into NC to visit Jon and family. It's beautiful country and pleased that Tim and Laura were able to enjoy it.
