We missed our Lilac blooms this spring. It was of our own making since I directed the shrub trimming when Verlon was here last fall. I had him trim them all down quite severely and it took off all the bloom buds. We have Persian as well as French Lilac and they all took the "hit". The proper procedure is to prune spring blooming shrubs soon after their bloom. Summer and fall bloomers can't be trimmed in the spring. Next Sunday is Mother's Day which is always a good time to get various annuals set out. I did some soil preparation in our old black butcher kettle yesterday getting ready. We were down at Walmart today and noticed they had their plants in. I expect by this time next week, we will have many new plants in our yard.
