The Ruth Jaudon Memorial Service was held this afternoon at the United Methodist Church here in Seward with Pastor Rod Lyon Officiating. Ruth and Charley have many friends in the area after having moved to Seward in 1973. Charley and I played many rounds of golf here on the Seward Course over the years. He and Ruth brought a bit of "Southern Graciousness" to the community with their speech accent and friendliness. She was diagnosed with acute leukemia a few months ago and she and Charley left Brookdale for the extended living area of the Seward Hospital. We helped Ruth celebrate her 90th birthday earlier this month and had a good visit.
Pastor Rod presented an excellent service. Virginia Fraser, Pianist with the congregation singing of "How Great Thou Art". Jeremy Jaudon sang "Amazing Grace" acapella. Lunch was served where many stories of Ruth's card playing and "good deeds" were discussed. It was also an opportunity to talk with family and with Charley. We assured each other that we would continue to keep up our telephone visits. We also enjoyed visiting with Rod and reminded him that our son Jon and he were baptized on the same day in the Seward UCC Church back in the mid-'50's. Rod does a great job by having the "right" scripture passages and "stories" that family and mourners can understand and relate to. He still lives on the family farm, serves a couple small congregations and has become very popular in providing memorial services for local people.
