I was shocked this morning to get word from Chuck that Charley had died early today. It seems he fell in going to the bathroom, bumped his head among other things, and passed away during the early morning hours. It was only 2 days ago that he was very gracious at Ruth's Memorial Service. She passed away on May 23rd, last Wednesday. This picture was taken in early March of this year at the time of Charley's 92nd birthday. He and Ruth have been living in the extended care area of the Seward Memorial Hospital. While he had some health problems, there was no reason to expect his passing so nearly to the same time as Ruth who was stricken with acute Leukemia.
Charley and I played golf regularily for a period of over 10 years. This colorful picture was taken in the fall of 2012 as we and Eldy approached the 8th green here on the Seward Course.While we played some after that year, it was usually for special occasions. This picture is of a popular 4-some, Perry Webber, Dale Rocker and me with Charley. As we got older, we were able to "shoot our age" from the Senior tees, but our score was never that important to us. It was the felowship, environment and exercise that made it all very enjoyable. I can say without doubt that Charley helped make my golfing years, some of the best ones of my life.
