Good Things Happening in Seward

Jonathan Jank,  CEO of the Seward County Chamber and Development Partnership, provided the program at Kiwanis today. He covered several topics with the planned Rail Park a major one. He is working with the City in trying to attract a commercial business to the lot immediately west of the RR overpass on highway 15 south of Seward. Several "For Sale" signs have gone up on that area. He spoke of the grant received for the renovation of downtown buildings under certain circumstances. The is also some long range planning underway within the City. While past efforts have attempted to move highway traffic through town as fast as possible, thought is now to narrow the number of lanes to slow traffic to see the City and enhance the sidewalks along the highway.
He showed this picture of efforts by the County Commissioners and others to bring a life-sized statue of Wm H. Seward to the NW quarter of the Court House grounds. After seeing a Totem Pole "statue" of Wm. H. Seward discolored because of a misunderstanding following the purchase of Alaska, I was involved with others to "make recompense". My blog page of May 20, 2017 titled "Wm H. Seward" provides further details. I am very pleased to have a copy of this Statue here in the Town that was named in his honor. Our oldest son suggested this being very appropriate when it was learned that Sculptor Rubin preserved the mold for the casting.
