"The Wheel" is one of our favorite evening TV programs. When it is over at 7:00pm I frequently switch to NET 1 which I did this evening. It was my first introduction to Frank Abagnale and we listened to the completion of the program at 8:00. He was born in Bronxville, NY, in 1948 and is an American security consultant known for his history as a former confidence trickster, check forger, and impostor between the ages of 15 and 21.
His semi-autobiographic book, "Catch Me if You Can", was turned into a movie of the same name by Stevan Spielberg in 2002, featuring Leonard DiCaprio as Abagnale. He also has written, "Stealing Your Life", "The Art Of the Steal", "Real Guide to Identity Theft" among other books. The social media has paved the way for much of the fraud. He told of writing very few personal checks and uses a Credit Card instead of a Debit Card or checks for purchases. We have actually had a couple phone calls where a relative is in trouble and needs bail money but never took the bait. He says these calls should be reported to the State Attorney General's Office which we didn't do, but just hung up.
