Marv Taylor (red sweater) has been the promoter of the Kiwanis Flag Poles here in the Seward area for the past 20 years. He and the committee have sold over 900 telescopic poles, flags and many solar lights; including a Parade of Flags at the eastern entrance to our City. Moving into the Brookdale retirement facility hasn't hindered his involvement in Kiwanis activities. Even tonight he is helping with the "Backpack program". It was announced at Brookdale during the noon meal, that the sprinkler system, being installed, would be "air tested" and everyone was to be out of their units between 2:00-4:00pm. Treats and entertainment was provided for everyone in the Assisted Living area of the facility. Marv took advantage of the time to deliver a Flag he recently sold and invited Gene (far right) and I to ride along out to the Duane Medow farm a couple miles north of Tamora. The Flag set-up is for the "machine shed" where we visited Duane, son Kevin and daughter who took the picture. In addition to the large room, it also contains a kitchen and business office; just a great facility. The Medows are typical of many large farming operations in this area where the land was homesteaded or purchased back in the 1800's and passed on to future generations who were able to expand the holdings. An engraving of Paul Harvey's "So God made a Farmer" was near the door to the building.
