Some 21 horses were called to the post late this afternoon at rain soaked Churchill Downs in Louisville, KY. The wet track didn't dampen the races nor the variety of Ladies Hats. It made some history on this 145th running by being the first time that the apparent winner was disqualifies and with 65-1 odds, Country House was determined the winner. Maximum Security who was among the favorites and the apparent winner was disqualified for moving away from running on the rail into the paths of others coming up on his right. The decision was made by 3-Stewarts who spent several minutes in making the decision. I know very little about Horse Racing Regulations but am of the opinion that moving over was a fairly common way for leaders to protect and maintain their leadership position by blocking the opposition. It will be interesting to see if this decision is enforced in future races.
