I had checked out the ice for thickness and drove the tractor around the pond before giving Julie this ride on the sled, but I'm not sure it was very wise on my part. There is always a chance that a spring could open up under the ice and water and cause a soft spot. But it didn't happen and we had a great time. Maybe Julie learned something about the risk-reward equation in the process. Is it possible that not only this experience but many others on the farm, may have given her the courage and confidence to do such things such as going to New York City to work with Martha Stewart. There are some things that you learn on a farm with machinery, animals and nature that you just don't get from a book. And we are so pleased that she came back "home", married John and comes to visit quite often with our GreatGrandchildren, Sadie and Jack
